There are some things we MUST authorise. You must call us:
Before you are admitted into a hospital, or
Immediately when your condition has been stabilised in the emergency department.
In the event of treatment for a life-threatening emergency, you must call us within 24 hours of the initial treatment unless you are unconscious. If you are conscious but cannot call because of your condition, someone else (family member or travel companion) must call us on your behalf immediately when they know about your treatment.

We know that there are lots of fun and exciting things to do overseas. We are not saying don't do them - but we are saying that we can't cover you for high-risk activities be they in the air (parachuting, skydiving, hang gliding), on the snow (off-piste skiing), or on solid rock (mountaineering or rock climbing).

The British and Foreign Commonwealth provides good free travel advice - check their advice on where you are going before you book your trip.
If they advise not to travel to a country or even to a region or part of a country, you won't be covered if you go there and anything happens to you.
Equally, you aren't covered for cancellation costs simply because you've changed your mind about where you want to travel unless you have "Cancel for Any Reason" cover.

Buy your travel insurance policy when you pay for your trip.
Protect your financial investment. Make sure you are covered for absolutely any reason! Yes, you can even be covered if you have to cancel because your wedding has been cancelled and therefore the honeymoon is off.
To make sure you activate the cancel for any reason benefit, you must buy your travel insurance within 24 hours of paying for your trip.
This does not mean you cannot get cover if you have already paid for your trip, however the cover will be limited to the following reasons:
Report theft to the police or airline immediately.
You must report the theft of personal belongings to the police within 24 hours, be it from your room or on your person. We will need a copy of the police report when you submit your claim.
Similarly if your baggage is damaged or items have been removed, obtain a report from the airline before you leave the baggage collection area and claim from the airline first.
Alcohol related claims are not covered.
Yes, we know that most people enjoy a drink while on holiday but you aren't covered for any claim where alcohol is a factor.
Get written confirmation.
So your baggage is delayed for 2 days. You buy clothing and toiletries (keep the receipts) and now you want to claim for the extra costs. Please ask the airline for a letter to confirm how long your baggage was delayed for. This is proof that your baggage was in fact delayed and we can finalise your claim immediately.
Similarly if your flight was delayed, we must know the reason for the delay. If the flight was delayed due to a technical problem you are covered. We do not cover delays due to operational reasons as this is deemed to be “in the control of the airline”, such as crew shortages.
You have to cancel your trip. Contact your airline and accommodation provider IMMEDIATELY and ask for a letter confirming their cancellation policy. We want to pay your claim as soon as possible, however, without this letter we will not know how much we should pay you.
You receive medical treatment whilst on your trip, OR you need to cancel your trip due to a medical reason. We are not a medical aid, and do not have access to your medical records. Make sure you obtain a written diagnosis from your doctor. If your claim is related to an illness we will also need a medical history. We are not trying to delay the process, however we need to determine whether your claim is related to a pre-existing medical condition.
You need a motorcycle / driver’s license.
While thousands of visitors each year rent a motorcycle or scooter and ride around Southeast Asia totally unlicensed, if you don't have a valid license and have a crash it's pretty straightforward: you're riding illegally and you're not covered.
